Show Me the Money!
A couple of weeks ago, MSNBC reported a 21-year-old Overland Park man being commended for his honesty after he was mistakenly given a bank deposit bag instead of his order at a KFC drive-thru. Overland Park police said the man called and reported that he went through the restaurant's drive-thru, picked up his order, not looking in the bag and went home. When he got home, he found his order to be very tender - legal tender that is instead of chicken tender.
The police went to the man's house and escorted him to the restaurant where he exchanged all the money for his food. The police officer later wrote on his blog, "Thank you to this 21-year-old man for showing us this great example of honesty and doing the right thing."
Meanwhile in the land down under, an Australian bank was forced to shut down its entire network of ATM cash machines after a technical glitch issuing "free" money. Long lines began to form at machines as word spread that unrestricted withdrawals could be made, with reports of people walking away with thousands of dollars.
The bank said the problem arose following overnight maintenance on the system. Police warned that customers who failed to return the money could face criminal charges.
Detective Superintendent Col Dyson said, "People should realize that, even though an ATM has dispensed cash, they are not entitled to that money and are committing a criminal offense if they keep it. They should also realize that ATM locations are covered extensively by surveillance".
A bad situation, someone's mistake or a crisis can either bring out the best in people or the worst in people. Sometimes we think we can get away with it, and may even convince ourselves that bad is good, but we should remember that God says, "Be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23). Honesty is always the best policy!
